There are 2 ways to avoid plastic degradation by UV light.

• The first is to use UV absorbers, commonly known as color masterbatches. These absorbers protect polyethylene materials by absorbing UV light and converting it into longer wavelength light. Common ones are carbon black, titanium dioxide, benzophenone, benzotriazole, etc. These are typical UV absorbers. Benzotriazoles are very common because they are almost transparent and are stable against low doses of 0.5%.
• The second is the use of stabilizers, which can reduce the insulating properties, transfer free radical electrons, and inhibit the effect of free radicals. The most common are HALS, hindered amine light stabilizers. It blocks the chemical reaction of free radicals.
• In practical use, various types of additive combinations are used to enhance this UV stabilization. Link the level of UV protection to the ratio of additives. The addition of antioxidants to some plastics is ideal, but care must be taken that the antioxidants chosen do not act as UV absorbers and actually enhance degradation.
